Russell Lefevre has been on the Board of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) for 10 years. Prior to that he served on the Water Commission of the City of Torrance for 6 years, serving as Chair twice. At the MWD he served on the Water Planning and Stewardship Committee, the Agriculture and Industry Relations Committee, Engineering and Operations Committee, One Water Committee, Organization, Personnel & Technology Committee. With the MWD Board reorganization he presently serves on committees under the Board Vice Chair for Climate Action. He serves on the ACWA Energy Committee and on several Southern California Water Commission Task Forces.
He is a member and Past President of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)-USA and the IEEE Society of Aerospace and Electronics Engineers. He serves on IEEE Societies on Global Public Policy, Smart Grid, Electrical Transportation, Humanitarian Technology and Social Implications of Technology.
Russell has a Ph. D in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has a B.S and M.S in Physics from the University of North Dakota (UND). He holds an appointment as adjunct professor of physics at UND. He is a Fellow of IEEE and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He served as a scientific advisor for the U.S. Senator John D. “Jay” Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va).
